Brooklyn buys firearms to get them off the streets

The city government has proposed that fewer firearms are circulating on the streets, specifically in Brooklyn.

Therefore, anyone who owns one is encouraged to turn it over to the municipal authority to receive money in return.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, the New York Police Department and Emmanuel Baptist Church are joining forces for this buyback.

Gun owners who turn them in will receive a $200 bank card and an iPad. The popular Junior’s restaurant is providing the iPads.

Both working and inoperable weapons will be accepted and no questions will be asked.

This is the second gun buyback in Brooklyn this year. The latest event recovered some 40 firearms.

Many of them were exactly the kind of weapons that the authorities want to take off the streets.

This gun buyback is taking place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, located at 279 Lafayette Avenue.
