A 43-year-old man died on Friday evening as a result of a car accident after a police chase near Emmen, the police reported on Saturday. The man collided with the car of a 61-year-old woman on the N381. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The man had just ignored several stop signs from the police.
Due to the striking driving behavior of the driver on the N34 near Erm, the police wanted to check him. When that failed after several stop signs, an officer blocked the driver by placing the police car in front of the car. The man then turned and drove away. Then the “short police chase”, according to the police.
On the N381 near Erm, the man collided head on with another car, on which the emergency services were called. He eventually died on the spot from his injuries. The woman in the other vehicle had to be extricated from the car by firefighters.
Due to the police chase, the National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the accident. The service, which is part of the Public Prosecution Service (OM), is also used to investigate incidents in which people have been seriously injured or have a fatal outcome.
