In a letter circulating on social media, hundreds of students who are members of the Madura Santri Movement rejected the arrival of Ustaz Abdul Somad (UAS) to their city.
UAS refused to give a lecture in Sumenep, Madura, Friday (20/5) because the cleric was considered one of the preachers who taught radical and intolerant Islam.
“UAS is a propagator of radical and intolerant Islam who has created a commotion among the people, so in order to prevent and maintain the security of the Madurese community from radicals and intolerance, we on behalf of the Madura Santri Movement will stage a demonstration against the arrival of UAS in Madura,” write a letter notification of the action of the Madura Santri Movement.
The letter also stated that the Madura Santri Movement would take place at 13.00 WIB in front of the Sumenep Jamik Mosque with a mass of 200 students.
The UAS is planned to be filled in at the Al-Amien Parenduen Islamic Boarding School in Sumenep on Friday (20/5) at 19.30 WIB. After that, UAS will deliver a lecture at the Muidzul Amin Islamic Boarding School Al-Islamy Pagentenan Pamekasan the next day, Saturday (21/5) at 08.00 WIB.
Until this news was published, there was no confirmation whether UAS was still present for the lecture or not.

Previously, UAS was in the spotlight because it was refused entry to Singapore by the local government.
UAS admitted that he came to Singapore for a vacation and to meet friends, not to preach or fill a religious event.
