But that was also sorely needed in order to use the stadium sensibly!
The year is known to have 360 days. Real Madrid have about 60 games per season – around half of them are away games. Ie – to put it bluntly – Real Madrid only uses the stadium for 30 days a year. The stadium is available for other activities on around 335 days. And now we have to take advantage of this.
Since the stadium will have a retractable turf, this can be managed without replacing/renewing the turf every time.
Both non-sporting (concerts, trade fairs, etc.) and major sporting events (basketball, volleyball, tennis, American football games, etc.) are possible. That’s what I call optimal use!
Such modern multi-purpose stadiums are the future. Especially if the location – here: Madrid is a cosmopolitan city – brings advantages. The cities of London, Milan, Paris, Munich, Berlin, Barcelona, Rome and Hamburg can also use these advantages.
I think Perez wasn’t exaggerating when he said a few years ago that this will earn Real Madrid about €150m more than if the stadium hadn’t been modernised.
It is important and correct to know whether these 360m are only for non-sporting people or also for sporting events. As far as I know, Perez wanted to split them to generate more money. But I still have to read up on that.
In any case, a good idea and a smart move by Perez to get more money without selling the “soul” of the club.
