WhatsApp Tests Features Can Quit Groups Secretly

Whatsapp still notifies group admins if you secretly exit.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Sebagai platform popular messaging, WhatsApp is always bringing a number of new features. Before deciding to launch it, the company will test it first as it is currently doing.

WhatsApp is reportedly testing the silent group exit feature. If you choose to leave the group WhatsApp increasingly noisy or irrelevant, the app will upload a notification that anyone in the chat can see. This may not be a big deal in most cases, unless it’s a group with relatives or friends who tend to ask why you’re leaving.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a feature that could prevent awkward confrontations by letting you out of a group without posting a notification that everyone can see. However, the app will still notify group admins that you’re logged out when the feature is available. Not all members will know unless you tell them.

Reported by Engadget, Friday (20/5/2022), WABetaInfo first talked about the feature when Meta discussed experiments with Communities that people can use to combine separate group chats under one umbrella with a structure that suits them in April. Now, the publication has obtained screenshots of the WhatsApp beta on desktop showing the feature being tested.

“Only you and the group admin will be notified that you left the group,” the app says in the beta screenshot.

Hopefully, this feature will also roll out for WhatsApp on mobile. If you don’t want a specific contact to re-add you or add you to another group chat with them, don’t forget you can always block them from doing so. Under Privacy settings, you can choose the people who can add you to the group, with the options “Everyone”, “My contacts” and “My contacts except…” or the people you exclude.
