After a shooting that left five shot just blocks from Temple University, some residents reiterate the fear they feel when leaving their homes.
“I’m afraid to go out on the street, because the innocent always pay,” said Barbara García, a resident of the north of the city, angrily.
And it is that according to the policeSo far in 2022, the City of Brotherly Love has recorded 802 gunshot victims, 162 of which have ended in homicide.
The shooting that occurred just a couple of blocks from Temple University left five injured. Residents now say they fear for their lives. Isabel Sánchez tells us.
On Wednesday alone, five people, including three women, were shot near Temple University around 7 p.m.
Among the five victims was a 20-year-old lady, who was shot seven times in the body, and a 28-year-old man was shot 14 times.
“They are innocent people who are dying for people who have no mind,” added a mother.
The bullets from that shooting hit several houses and a parked car, which left the neighbors, some of them students, in shock.
“There are a lot of people who are afraid to come to the business,” said Ramón Cruz, a winemaker from the area. “The older people say they don’t go to the bodega because every once in a while there’s a shooting on the corner.”
While the city has recorded 800 shootings, earlier in the week the city indicated that they have seen a slight 9% drop in homicides compared to the number recorded 12 months ago.
