Three budding scientists from Collège Mandy François-Elie du Lamentin presented a project on the expansion of liquids that contribute to rising water levels in Martinique. On May 18, 2022, they were part of the 49 finalist teams representing 30 French academies in the C’Génial Competition. A scientific competition between college and high school students.
On April 5, 2022, 24 members of the science club of the Mandy François-Elie du Lamentin college came first in the C’Génial scolaire competition.
With this placement, the team automatically qualified for the national competition for the presentation of a didactic and innovative project.
For 2 years, the college has been participating in the seed project for scientific reporters in collaboration with the Kara Expedition scientific boat, which studies the planet’s oceans.
The project: “the rising waters, causes and effects on the Martinican coasts”, is centered on the expansion of the liquids which contribute to the rising waters.

From the studios of Martinique la 1ère, young scientists have demonstrated that hot water has more volume than cold water.
As a result, with global warming, warmer waters are contributing to rapid sea level rise. A situation already complicated by the melting of the glaciers.
Mrs. Viviane Chemineau, professor of physics and chemistry, led the project with 24 college students.
Jérémie Parents-Desravinieres, Ronald Amphimaque and Loane Phejar presented the project to the jury.
A total of 5,631 high school and college students presented 269 projects. Twenty prizes were at stake.
The competition jury was made up of men and women, all professionals in the sectors of renewable energy, industry, automotive and even forensic scientists.

The C’Génial competition has existed for 15 years. Its objective is to promote the teaching of science and technology.
