Former United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have apparently had a good relationship. Most recently in March this year, Trump described his Russian counterpart as a “friend” he “got along well with.”
Now, however, Russia’s expert in the White House and former senior director of the US National Security Council with responsibility for Europe and Russia, Fiona Hill, is revealing new details about the relationship. She has worked under George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump, and has assisted during talks with Russia.
“President Vladimir Putin was often frustrated by Donald Trump’s lack of knowledge about geopolitical issues,” she said Business Insiderclaiming that this influenced Moscow’s decision on the timing of the invasion of Ukraine.

– Do not like to do it
One of the reasons Putin invaded Ukraine under President Joe Biden is said to have been that he thought it would be easier to deal with Biden than to try to negotiate with someone like Trump.
“He had to explain everything to him all the time, and Putin does not like to do that,” Hill said.
– More exposed to threats now
She continues:
– Although he loves to be able to invent his own version of events, he wants predictability in people he relates to. He believed that Biden – who knows everything about NATO, actually knows where Ukraine is, has knowledge of the country’s history and is very interested in international affairs – would be the right person to engage with.

Several of Trump’s former advisers have revealed that the ex-president had a bad grip on global issues. The former national security adviser, John Bolton, is said to have said, among other things, that Trump once asked if Finland was part of Russia, writes Business Insider.
Also in Hill’s latest book, “There Is Nothing for You Here: Finding Opportunity in the Twenty-First Century”, published in October last year, it is stated that Trump has little knowledge of history – also in terms of basic American history.
Trump has not yet commented on the allegations.

Trump has previously stated that an invasion of Ukraine would be “unthinkable” if he had won the presidential election in 2020.
– This is a war that would never have taken place if I were president. Thousands of Ukrainians have been killed by Russian forces over a “rigged election,” Trump said as he guest Piers Morgan’s new talk show at the end of April.
The former president also claimed that he prevented Putin from invading Ukraine during the four years he was in power.
– I threatened him like he has never been threatened before. I made it clear that we would react strongly if he invaded Ukraine, he said without elaborating on what the threats were, he said.
