American atmosphere on Usedom: Four months before the Usedom Music Festival, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra is making a guest appearance on the island this week. Visitors can experience the orchestra live from Friday to Tuesday at a total of five concerts. The organizer announced that it was the orchestra’s first foreign tour since 2019. The five-day residency should set an example for freedom, peace and diversity.
The series starts on Friday with a concert at the Peenemünde power station. The program includes Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5. In addition to the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Jaap van Zweden, musicians from the Baltic Sea Philharmonics will also play.
Soloists will also be present at all three concerts in Peenemünde: the pianist Jan Lisiecki, the violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and the baritone Thomas Hampson will perform. Two chamber concerts in Heringsdorf and Wolgast will follow on Monday and Tuesday.
Music continues on the island in autumn – with around 35 concerts at the Usedom Music Festival. From September 17th to October 8th, more than 350 musicians will present themselves. This year Estonia is the focus of the festival.
