150 jobs lost at Netflix: “Laundry driven by business needs, not individual performance”

“Unfortunately, we are letting about 150 employees go today, mostly in the US. These changes are driven primarily by business needs and not individual performance. That makes it extra hard because none of us want to say goodbye to such great colleagues.”

The announcement comes after Netflix reported a 200,000 subscriber loss in the first quarter, the first in more than a decade. Netflix attributes the decline mainly to the difficulties in recruiting new users, but also to the fact that the service is no longer available in Russia.
