On May 6, Professor François Dabis, infectious disease specialist, president of Corevih in New Aquitaine, of the Bordeaux city without AIDS association and president of the steering committee for the second 2021-2023 roadmap of the national sexual health strategy and reproductive, responded to an interview (ActuBordeaux.fr) on HIV. Asked about advances in research for an HIV vaccine, he explained: “It’s been since the appearance of the virus [du sida, ndlr] let’s look for one. It may seem paradoxical when you see how quickly we found a vaccine against Covid. Until now, in the development of the vaccine, we have failed every time. It must be understood that this virus is eminently more complex and variable than most of the viruses that we know; which leads to this form of failure. And with the development of messenger RNA technologies (…) there has been a shift in knowledge from the Covid vaccine to the HIV vaccine. Now, we have to allow time for studies to be done, but it will take a few years”. “As long as we don’t have a vaccine, it will be difficult to have total and global control of the epidemic,” he concluded.
