In the best of moods, Laura Dahlmeier presented very special memorabilia on Monday at the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art in Munich on loan to the House of Bavarian History: bibs, a biathlon rifle without a barrel and gold and bronze medals from the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. There, in 2018, she was the first biathlete to sensationally win the sprint and pursuit double. She won bronze in the individual competition. With a total of 18 medals at major events by the end of her career in 2019, the Partenkirchen native belongs to the ranks of top Bavarian biathletes such as Uschi Disl and Magdalena Neuner.
The Bavarian Minister of Art Markus Blume was delighted with Dahlmeier’s treasures, which are now going to the special exhibition “Bavaria and Olympia 1896 – 2022” in Regensburg: “With staying power, a steady hand and strong nerves on the biathlon Olympus: Laura Dahlmeier is a true Bavarian sports icon! We all cannot forget her Olympic successes in Pyeongchang. I am very pleased that the House of Bavarian History was able to win Laura Dahlmeier as the flagship for the exhibition ‘Bavaria and Olympia 1896 – 2022’.”
Laura Dahlmeier’s likeness adorns the official poster motif of the special exhibition “Bavaria and Olympia 1896 – 2022”, which can be seen from July 12, 2022 to January 15, 2023 at the end of the exhibition tour on the upper floor of the House of Bavarian History in Regensburg. As “Vergelt’s Gott” for her support, exhibition manager Marc Spohr presented Laura Dahlmeier with a glossy poster and exhibition catalogs from the House of Bavarian History.
The exhibits handed over by Laura Dahlmeier are among the main attractions of the special exhibition. Using many original pieces of sports equipment and equipment belonging to Bavarian Olympians, the exhibition shows how Bavarian athletes have risen to become popular figures and ambassadors of sport and the Free State of Bavaria thanks to their successes at the Olympic Games. At the same time, she takes a look at the Olympic Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936 and in Munich in 1972, as well as the most recent unsuccessful applications.
In the stadium cinema in the Sports Culture Cabinet, the House of Bavarian History is showing the history of the Olympic Games held in Bavaria in the film accompanying the exhibition. In addition, an interactive Internet portal will provide insights into the history of the Bavarian Olympics and the collection structure of the House of Bavarian History on the subject of sports and the Olympics in Bavaria. The portal will be below www.hdbg.de/bavaria-olympia to be found.
