With the zombie comedy «Coupez!» by Frenchman Michel Hazanavicius (55, “The Artist”), the 75th Cannes Film Festival opened yesterday, and the Palme of Honor went to Oscar winner Forest Whitaker (60).
But by far the greatest attention in the anniversary edition belongs to the King. The world premiere of the highly anticipated biopic “Elvis” by Baz Luhrmann (59) with Austin Butler (30) as Elvis Presley (1935-1977), Olivia DeJonge (24) as Priscilla Presley (76) and Tom Hanks (65) as his Manager Colonel Tom Parker (1909–1997) runs May 25.
Cruise is also coming to the French Riviera
There’s already excitement on the red carpet tonight. US top star Tom Cruise (59) has been announced, who will start the fighter jet again 36 years after “Top Gun” for the second part of the spectacle.
And “Crimes of the Future” by cult director David Cronenberg (79) brings glamor to the Côte d’Azur with Kristen Stewart (32), Léa Seydoux (36) and Viggo Mortensen (63). Tilda Swinton (61) and Idris Elba (49) are also expected with the romance “Three Thousand Years of Longing”.
