The final of the Pernambuco championship, in early May, was marked by a moment in which a Náutico player almost attacked the referee after being sent off after 22 minutes of play.
Alerted by VAR and after seeing an aggression against a player from Retrô, judge Deborah Correia showed Jean Carlos the red card, who decided to confront the judge, forcing the referee to remove him, first, and then retreating, with the midfielder to having to be grabbed by colleagues.

He would later apologize, but Jean Carlos has now been suspended for 10 games, after sitting in court. However, the penalty will be served in the Pernambuco championship next season, so the player is free to play to represent Náutico. The charge of attempted aggression, which provided for a minimum punishment of 90 days, has not yet been taken into account. The player was in danger of not playing for the next three months.
The player reiterated that he did not try to attack the referee, only to demonstrate that he had not made a foul with his elbow on an opponent, but Déborah Correia testified that he felt threatened. “I tried to take two, three steps back and stretched out my arm as a reflex, as a self-defense. Otherwise he would come to me and I would fall back, sitting up. The video shows the possible aggression, so much so that he had to be contained by the other players”, she said.
