According to the first information, the pedestrian, BS (64) from Beringen, would have wanted to cross the street with two others, but at that moment passed a car. The driver was unable to stop in time and the pedestrian was arrested. Attempts were made to resuscitate the victim, but all help came too late.
The devastation on the spot is enormous. There were horrifying scenes. For example, two relatives of the victim, including her husband, were said to have been with her when the accident happened. The woman who was behind the wheel of the car was also said to be in shock and was taken to hospital.
“Dramatic event”
Umut drove a few vehicles behind the driver. “I did not see how the accident happened,” the man said. “At one point all the cars stopped and I saw a woman lying unconscious on the ground. I also saw how the driver of the black car was in shock and hyperventilating. She screamed and shouted “She’s dead, she’s dead”. It was a really dramatic event,” says Umut, who adds that the Koolmijnlaan is a dangerous job. “It’s so bad that another person has to die here,” he concludes.
The street was closed in both directions to all traffic. Immediately after the incident, the police diverted everyone. The local police of Heusden-Zolder made the first observations and informed the Limburg public prosecutor’s office. They requested a traffic expert to reconstruct the accident. zb
