The drug dealer who indirectly delivered deadly pills to Mac Miller in 2018 has been sentenced to 17.5 years in prison. The pills contained the substance fentanyl, without the rapper knowing about it, and in combination with cocaine and alcohol led to Miller’s death.
Suspect Stephen Walter had already made a partial confession so he could make a deal with Justice. A drug trafficking charge would be dropped. As a result, he was counting on a 17-year prison sentence, but the judge told him on Monday that he “didn’t agree” with the deal.
“That punishment is too low according to federal guidelines,” music magazine quotes Rolling Stone Judge Otis Wright.
Wright gave Walter a chance to retract his confession, but after consulting his lawyer, Walter declined. He agreed to a sentence increase to 17.5 years in prison.
Walter repeated in his closing remarks that he did not know that Miller had died because of his supplied drugs. “My actions have had major consequences and I deeply regret that. I am not a person who wants to hurt other people,” he said. “But I take responsibility for my actions.”
In April, another drug dealer already received 11 years in prison
Another drug dealer was previously convicted in the Mac Miller case. Cameron James Pettit was sentenced to 11 years in prison in April. Pettit is said to have been the rapper’s dealer and Walter was Pettit’s supplier.
Miller passed away on September 7, 2018 at the age of 26.
