Elementary school students in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, shop for food at the canteen near the school without strict supervision, Tuesday (10/5/2022). Cases of acute hepatitis that attack children appear in many places in Java. However, the school in Kendari has not yet received a thorough understanding of this case and has carried out normal learning.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Cases of severe acute hepatitis in children continue to spread. In addition to the hypothesis that leads to an adenovirus, the possibility of a link between this disease and SARS-CoV-2 cannot be ignored, so that efforts to prevent Covid-19 infection in children are an important part of efforts to reduce the risk of hepatitis.

“Until now, the cause of hepatitis in children cannot be concluded, including the mechanism of transmission. There are a number of hypotheses that are still being investigated,” said Head of the Expert Committee on Hepatitis and Digestive Tract Infections at the Ministry of Health, David Handojo Muljono in Jakarta, Monday (16/5/2022).
