Hyères and Fréjus are in a French top 5. That of cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants having the greater proportion of solar panels compared to the total surface of the roofs of the municipality. This is information from Figaro, calculated in collaboration with NamR. This company detects solar, photovoltaic and thermal panels installed on French tiles.

A Hyeres, grand premiere national, on 1000 square meters of roof, 7.6 square meters are equipped with solar panels. Frejus, ranks fifth behind Perpignan (7.1‰), Pessac (6.8‰) and Ajaccio (6‰). In the fourth city of the Var, 5.5 square meters per 1000 are covered with black panels.
“The establishment of Solar plan at the end of 2019 for the South region has made it possible to multiply the facilities on the regional territory in order to limit the consumption of fossil fuels and to deal with climate change, ”said Chloé Clair, general manager of namR, at Figaro.
The region Provence-Alpes-Côtes-d’Azur (1436 MW) nevertheless arrives at the third position of the top 3 regions with the most solar equipment in 2020, after New Aquitaine and Occitanie.
In 2019, according to RTE, 20.2% of the energy produced was renewable, of which 2.2% solar energy. “While some territories already rely on solar, it can still be developed. In a context where fossil fuels are increasingly contested, solar energy appears as a solution towards a sustainable transition that addresses both the climate emergency but also the energy crisis caused by the current geopolitical situation”, underlined Chloé Clair in Figaro.
