Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not want to be invited to the Queen’s balcony, a close friend says.
Royal author and assistant to Meghan Markle, Omid Scobie, denies the couple was turned away from the Trooping the Color event, insisting they themselves opted out of the momentous occasion.
Writing for Yahoo News, Scobie said Harry had “talked to his grandmother about the possibility of not attending Trooping the Color long before last week’s announcements.”
The Sussexes thought it was “inappropriate” to appear at the “balcony moment” as they were no longer royals, she added.
But they were “eager” to be part of the Jubilee and to attend the June 3 service.
Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and moved to the US with their son Archie. After a year, the couple welcomed a younger daughter, Lilibet.
The Sussexes have been controversial royals since their decision to step down from their duties. The pair sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an explosive interview, where Megan accused Queen attendees of being racist.
