Mars is still an unknown, mysterious planet, victim of many fantasies and enigmas. However, over the last few decades, the robots that roam the ground and the spaceships that passed in the orbit of the red planet, obtained many incredible images. Of course, there are photographs that did not leave anyone indifferent, such as, for example, a captured on the 7th of Maywhich shows us a “door”.
It looks like a door, dimensions like a door, so… is it really a door?
We can let ourselves be carried away by the imagination and extrapolate that the proof has finally been captured that on the planet Mars there is an intelligent civilization of Martians. Well, this is one of the approaches that thousands of people have already taken in the most conventional places of debate.
Don't worry, the truth is, this isn't the first time we've seen something like this, and unfortunately, it's highly unlikely that this doorway is the entrance to a rustic Martian sanctuary.
A door that is not a door
The epicenter of the debate is on the social network Reddit. There, users present all sorts of theories to explain this enigmatic image, which can be seen by anyone on the platform. GigaPan panoramic image. The most extreme ideas speak of extraterrestrial life, while the more reasonable ones argue that the "Martian door" is the product of geological activity.
NASA, the space agency behind the mission Mars Curiosity Rover, did not comment on this matter. However, there are at least two possible explanations for this enigmatic image. One is that the "gate" could have been formed by a shear fracture, produced by the effect of stress on the rock after an earthquake.
As we have seen, earthquakes are quite common on Mars and an example of this happened on the 4th of May. The biggest earthquake on record has been captured on the planet. According to data from NASA's InSight Mars platform, the movement was considerable for the red planet, although on Earth it would have been of intermediate magnitude.
Another explanation, which complements the previous one, is the paridolia. This is a psychological phenomenon described by Jeff Hawkins in his prediction theory of memory, where a random image is erroneously perceived as a recognizable shape.
Remember the mysterious cabin detected by the rover Yutu-2 Chinese on the Moon? Well, it wasn't a cabin, but a small rock. This means that if we let ourselves be carried away by what we think we see, we end up seeing objects where there are none. In any case, since the Curiosity rover landed on Mars in 2012, it has been making a spectacular work.
This very expensive human equipment has already made it possible to discover that the planet's clouds are gray, shiny and surprisingly similar to our own. We also have fun with your selfies, and even we were able to build an interactive panorama to explore the surface.
