Jean-François Guevremont suspected that he would find a vibrant and close-knit LGBTQ2+ community in Vancouver. He had seen it on his first trip to the Pacific coast, when visiting his uncles many years ago. Between two shoots of the popular show Canada’s Drag Race, it was then Rita Baga’s turn to meet a community that would welcome her with open arms. In town, the headquarters of the queenit is of course Davie Village*, where the good addresses of queer culture gather. On the list of must-see stops in the sector are, among others, Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium*, a true institution of the Vancouver LGBTQ2+ scene.

I find that in Vancouver there is a strong sense of belonging around sexual and gender diversity. There is a community spirit, cultivated among other things by the proximity of the shops on Davie Street.

The omnipresence of nature and all this water that borders the city: this is also what strikes the traveler each time he goes into exile in Vancouver for a few days. When he wants to recharge his batteries in the heart of green spaces a stone’s throw from the urban bustle, the interpreter of Rita Baga heads for Stanley Park. Even bigger than Central Park, this spectacular park is home to the Vancouver Aquarium, a rose garden, the famous Seawall promenade, giant trees, restaurants and magnificent beaches. The drag queen has a weakness for vancouver beaches*. Kitsilano, Jericho or Wreck Beach, a naturist beach: these are all places where you can appreciate the seaside spirit of Vancouver.
In Vancouver, in a few minutes, you can go from one atmosphere to another. It is magic !

One of the places that the traveler in British Columbia would like to revisit is without a doubt the capilano park*. He has a vivid memory of crossing the long suspension bridge over the gorges of the tumultuous Capilano River. But it’s not just the bridge to conquer in this park nestled in the heart of the coastal rainforest! The footbridges flush with the cliff and those suspended above the canyon also reserve their share of thrills.
I visited the Capilano Bridge when I was younger and I always tell myself that I should go back. There are the mountains around Vancouver that I would also like to discover.

In Vancouver, Rita Baga has no trouble filling her social diary. A bingo night hosted by the city’s most prominent drag queens, spectacles de drag* and colorful performances in a nightclub or on Wreck Beach, an outing to the dance floors of Celebrities Nightclub… There’s never a dull moment! Looking for a less electric atmosphere? The interpreter of Rita Baga likes to frequent the terraces, cafes and restaurants that line the coast.
I like the Cactus Club Cafe located in the English Bay area, a good place not very expensive. Its large glass roof at the back overlooks the ocean and you can eat with the sunset.
