Teuvo Teravainen also hit the mark for the Hurricanes, who ultimately got the better of the Bruins. The latter had the upper hand over the Hurricanes in the playoffs in two of the last three seasons.
The home team won every game in the series and the Hurricanes had the last laugh, once again enjoying the support of their fans.
In the second round, the Hurricanes will face the winner of the series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers. The seventh game of this series will be presented on Sunday.
Domi was the surprise hero of the meeting on Saturday. The Hurricanes acquired his services from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Trade Deadline Day in March. He scored his first two career goals in the playoffs, in addition to collecting an assist on the goal of Teravainen thanks to a perfect pass in the slot.
Raanta, making his playoff debut this spring, has once again been solid in net. He made his most spectacular save in the first half, throwing a big gap to frustrate Taylor Hall.
Jake DeBrusk scored in the second period for the Bruins. David Pastrnak then scored with 21.7 seconds left in regulation when goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman was replaced by an extra forward.
The Hurricanes managed to hang on to their one-goal lead and were able to celebrate moments later.
Swayman made 28 saves in net for the Bruins.
The Bruins were in the playoffs for a sixth straight season. They had swept the Hurricanes in the Eastern Finals in 2019 and defeated them in five games in the 2020 first round in the Toronto bubble.
This time around, the Hurricanes have never trailed behind in the series, having outplayed the Bruins in all three of their regular season games.
The Bruins’ plans remain uncertain this summer. Longtime captain and number one center Patrice Bergeron could become an unrestricted free agent after 18 seasons with the team. Bergeron hugged each of his teammates as they left the ice.
