Borussia Dortmund – Hertha BSC 2:1 (0:1)
Hertha BSC has to tremble in the relegation for relegation in the Bundesliga. On the last regular match day, the Berliners lost 2-1 at Borussia Dortmund and fell back to the relegation zone because of VfB Stuttgart’s simultaneous victory over 1. FC Köln. Ishak Belfodil gave the visitors a 1-0 lead (18′) with a converted penalty kick that Dan-Axel Zagadou was responsible for inflicting on Belfodil. BVB, who were no longer concerned with sport, then ran out of ideas. But Borussia increased the pressure after the change of sides. The equalizer came with a penalty. The video assistant spotted a hand ball from Marvin Plattenhardt, who had blocked a Raphael Guerreiro free-kick with his arm. Scorer Erling Haaland scored from the point in his last game for BVB to make it 1-1 (68th). Dortmund now tightened the guests – and was rewarded with the 2-1 by Youssoufa Moukoko, who had just come on as a substitute (84th). After that, Hertha failed to make a comeback – the capital club had to “detention”.

VfB Stuttgart – 1. FC Cologne 2: 1 (1: 0)
Thanks to a 2-1 win over 1. FC Köln and the simultaneous defeat in Berlin at Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart pushed Hertha down from 15th place and managed to stay up in the league. Sasa Kalajdzic put the home side on course. The Austrian missed a penalty kick caused by Luca Kilian, who pulled Tiago Tomas’ jersey (11′). Shortly thereafter, he headed in from a corner to put the lead 1-0 up. Afterwards, VfB missed several big opportunities for a possible higher lead. In the second half, FC striker Anthony Modeste benefited from a mistake by VfB goalkeeper Florian Müller, who let the ball slip out of his hands. Modeste was there and headed in to make it 1-1 (59′). However, Stuttgart continued to press for the second goal and were rewarded in added time with Wataru Endo’s 2-1 winner (90+2).

Arminia Bielefeld – RB Leipzig 1: 1 (0: 0)
Arminia Bielefeld follows SpVgg Greuther Fürth into the second division. The East Westphalians came to a 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig on the last day of the game, but were no longer able to achieve relegation status anyway thanks to VfB Stuttgart’s victory over Cologne. The relegation of Fürth had been certain for a few weeks. Bielefeld, who will probably be coached for the last time by regular goalkeeping coach Marco Kostmann, were often too harmless in attack against RB. Overall, there were few offensive actions in the first round. Among the Saxons only Christopher Nkunku caused occasional danger. It initially remained the same in the second section. But then Bielefeld scored the 1-0 lead through Janni Serra (70′), which didn’t change anything about relegation – especially since Willi Orban equalized for Leipzig in injury time to make it 1-1 (90′ + 3′).

Jonas Wind scored the Wolfsburg goal shortly before the break (45th) and Max Kruse even managed to equalize for VfL (58th) after a two-goal deficit. Instead of playing in the third-class UEFA competition, the Conference League, as this season, coach Urs Fischer’s team will continue in the 2022/23 season against higher-class opponents in the Europa League. FSV Mainz 05 – Eintracht Frankfurt 2: 2 (1: 2)
For Eintracht Frankfurt, the Rhein-Main derby against Mainz 05 was primarily about warming up for the Europa League final against Glasgow Rangers on Wednesday – and avoiding injuries as far as possible. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, which was no longer relevant for either club in the table. Mainz striker Marcus Ingvartsen scored twice (10′, 49′), Tuta scored for SGE (26′ and Rafael Borré (35′).
