JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV Tomorrow there will be a Total Lunar Eclipse (GBT) and it is predicted that it will occur on Sunday (15/5/2022) to Monday (16/5).

So, which areas can be seen, is Indonesia also included?

A Total Lunar Eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the Moon, Earth, and Sun are in a straight line, and the Moon enters completely into the Earth’s core shadow or umbra.

The result of the GBT phenomenon is that sunlight cannot be reflected to the surface of the Moon.

Reported from Kompas.com The Total Lunar Eclipse of May 15, 2022 will begin at around 22:28 EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) or 09.00 WIB.

Then, the peak of the Total Lunar Eclipse will occur on May 16, 2022, at 04.11 UT (Universal Time) or 11.11 WIB.

This total lunar eclipse is estimated to take 3 hours, 27 minutes and 58 seconds to completely pass through the umbra.

The total phase of the lunar eclipse, which will take place starting tomorrow, can be mostly observed in North America, all of South America, Central and Western Europe, as well as most of Africa except for the easternmost part.

The total lunar eclipse of May 15, 2022, tends to be reddish in color due to Rayleigh refraction, which is the selective refraction of sunlight by the Earth’s atmosphere.

Unlike when observing a solar eclipse, observing a lunar eclipse does not require special protection such as glasses.
