UNITED STATES OF AMERICA – Scientists have succeeded in developing plant seeds with soil moon for the first time. It was a surprise and a very important step to make the stay on the moon longer.
In the study, scientists from the University of Florida used soil samples taken by NASA astronauts on the Apollo missions. The astronauts who went to the moon in the period 1969-1972 also brought samples of lunar soil for research purposes.
That sample is then used by researchers from the University of Florida by placing the seeds plant . As a result, the plant seeds in the lunar soil sample actually began to develop until the sixth day.
“We were really very surprised by these results. Each seed developed identically until day six,” explained Anna-Lisa, a researcher from the University of Florida.
After the sixth day, according to Anna-Lisa, there was a big change. The growth of plant seeds actually seems to run slowly. Even in the following days, it looks like it’s on hold.
However, according to Anna-Lisa, the result remains a positive development. Because there are still opportunities to develop their achievements.
“This research is critical to NASA’s long-term human exploration goals because we need to use the resources found on the moon and Mars to develop food sources for future astronauts living and operating in space,” said NASA chief Bill Nelson.
