International Astronomers Release Images of Black Hole in the Center of the Milky Way Galaxy, Surrounded by Super Glowing Gas

JOGJA PORTAL – The international team of astronomers known as The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Collaboration has just released the first images of a supermassive black hole at the Center Milkyway Galaxy. This giant cosmic object is known as Sagittarius A*.

Produced images EHT as shown by the National Science Foundation’s YouTube channel is confirmation of the existence of this invisible object and appears after the first image of a black hole or black hole from a galaxy far away.

Reporting from Al Jazeera, astronomers believe that almost all galaxies, including the Milky Way galaxy, have a giant black hole at their center, from which light and matter cannot escape, making it difficult to obtain images.

Disclosed, the released image does not depict the black hole itself, because the hole is really dark. But it is the glowing gas surrounding the black hole, which is four million times larger than the Sun that reflects the light.

Project scientist EHT Geoffrey Bower, from Academia Sinica Taiwan said, these observations have opened up insight into how black hole interact with their environment.

Meanwhile, Feryal Ozel from the University of Arizona said, black hole as the ‘gentle giant’ at the center of our galaxy. Sagittarius A*, abbreviated as Sgr A*, has been assumed to exist since 1974, with the detection of an unusual radio source at the galactic center.

Previously, in the 1990s, astronomers mapped the orbit of the brightest star near the center of the Milky Way, confirming the existence of a supermassive compact object in that place.

Although the existence of black holes is thought to be the only plausible explanation, a new image is being released EHT it provides direct visual evidence for the first time.
