From dictatorship to Corona dictatorship! North Korea has officially reported the first Corona case.
After two years of a global pandemic, the most isolated country in the world has officially announced the first corona case. The virus was detected in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang, Kim propaganda said.
Because of the “serious national emergency”, dictator Kim Jong-un (38) ordered all cities and counties to be strictly sealed off to prevent the virus from spreading further. As of Thursday, North Korea had not confirmed a single case of Covid-19.

Not much is likely to change in the extremely poor country, which has been strictly authoritarian for decades. North Korea sealed itself off even more in early 2020 to protect itself from the pandemic.
But even before that, there was hardly any way out and only a few ways into the country.
The fact that the current report of an infection is the very first corona case in North Korea is doubted internationally.
It was initially unclear how many corona cases there really are in the dictatorship and where those affected were infected. Apparently it is the highly contagious omicron subvariant BA.2.
► Kim announced that the country would implement a “maximum” quarantine protocol to contain the outbreak. The aim is to find the “origin (the infection; editor) to be eliminated within a very short time”.
All economic activities are organized in such a way that each production unit is “isolated” to prevent the spread of the disease. A method that neighboring China has been pursuing since the beginning of the pandemic.

Experts have long warned that the isolated and underdeveloped dictatorship would find it difficult to deal with an outbreak of Corona because of its inadequate health system.
Dictator Kim is certain that North Korea can defeat the virus. Because: “The more dangerous enemy than the malicious virus is unscientific fear, lack of faith and weak will,” said the dictator.
The communist leadership in Pyongyang had closed the national borders early on because of the pandemic, which also had a strong impact on trade with China.
In January this year, China initially announced the resumption of cargo traffic with North Korea. According to reports in the South Korean media, cross-border iron freight traffic was suspended again at the end of April after new cases of infection in the Chinese border city of Dandong.
