In the first instance, Piedone was convicted of abuse of office in connection with the issuance of operating permits for the Colectiv club, as mayor of Sector 4.

After four delays, The Bucharest Court of Appeal will pronounce the final decision in the Collective process on Thursdayconcluded in December 2021. In the first instance, the former mayor of Sector 4 Cristian Popescu-Piedone – current mayor of Sector 5 – was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison for abuse of office in connection with the tragedy that resulted in 62 people died and about 150 others were maimed for life.
