Elon Musk says he will reverse Donald Trump’s Twitter ban

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said Tuesday that he will reverse the Twitter ban on former US President Donald Trump, speaking at the Financial Times conference on the future of the automobile.

Musk, a self-described “free speech absolutist,” recently signed a $44 billion deal to acquire the social media platform.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The suspension of Trump’s account, which had more than 88 million followers, silenced his main speaker days before the end of his term and came after years of debate about how social media companies should moderate the accounts of powerful leaders. global.

Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter shortly after the January 6 riots at the US Capitol. Twitter cited “the risk of further incitement to violence” in his move.

The decision amplified his views among people on the political right, according to Musk, who called the ban “morally wrong and totally stupid.”

Trump previously stated on Fox News that he would not return to Twitter even if Musk bought the platform and reinstated his account. He said he would use his own social media app, called Truth Social, which launched in the Apple store in late February but was buggy until more recently, when he started letting in more users.

There was no immediate comment from a Trump spokesman.
