Singer Patrisha: ‘I am for peace, against war and for Ukraine’

The new singer has come under discussion these days Patrisha or Patricia Ksenia Cupriyanovich. Her single “I Could Be It” was released on May 10, but the celebration of the release of a new song was overshadowed by an interview with the singer’s program on the morning program of the radio station “Star FM”, in which the musician expressed neutrality about Russia’s war in Ukraine , but does not stand on either side.

The directors of the program “Zoopasta” Baiba Sipeniece-Gavare and Jānis Romanovskis questioned the singer not only about her new creative performance, but also about her family and relatives living in Russia and Belarus, as well as in Ukraine. The singer’s answer that this is a painful and complicated question, and she does not stand on either side, later provoked a sharp reaction and condemnation on social networks, accusing the singer of trampling and avoiding taking a position. At the end of the day, Patrisha published a broader explanation of the situation in his social network accounts, emphasizing that he was in favor of peace, against war and about Ukraine.

It should be reminded that the singer was one of those Latvian artists who responded to the call of Ralph Eyland and performed a support concert at the Riga Congress Hall the day after the start of the war. The singer also performed in a concert in support of Ukraine in Daugavpils.

Patrisha writes on Facebook that she is a very emotional person, especially in matters affecting her family, so it has been painful to read the condemnatory comments as well as “almost physically feel a wave of hatred” after the interview with Star FM.

“Let it be clear and understandable to everyone: the day after the Russian army invaded Ukraine, I was singing a song in Ukrainian in support of Ukraine. Yes, in Ukrainian. Because there are Ukrainians in my family. And I think that clearly confirms my position. I, like other musicians who performed at a concert in Riga at the Congress House, am still as united in our support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian struggle against the occupying army. because every normal person knows and understands that Ukrainians defend their country and their freedom, so it is even superfluous to ask “which side am I?” I am for peace, for war and for Ukraine, “writes Patrisha.

However, she emphasizes that in an interview she was asked about her family and relatives in all three countries involved in the war. “I am against the war, I am against the Putin regime, I am for peace. And here it is unnecessary to ask about the ‘parties’. My relatives in both Russia and Belarus are also against Putin, against his war. Does that mean I should they also be against them, the people, my relatives in Russia and Belarus, who, like me, are against this war, against the violence, against the killing of people in Ukraine? “My relatives in Ukraine are forced to hide in bomb shelters. I’m not on either side of my family because, in fact, we are all on the same side – my war.”

With this answer, the singer hopes to put an end to the hateful discussion.

Delfi also contacted the singer’s publishers from Universal Music Baltics, who refrained from commenting on the situation. According to Sabine Brice, a spokeswoman for Universal Music Baltics, Universal Music Group has always been opposed to war, has always condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and stopped working in Russia. The publisher’s spokeswoman also said that Universal Music Group supports non-governmental organizations that help Ukraine and its people on a global scale.

The new singer Patrisha made her debut in 2019, releasing four singles and a mini-album under the auspices of the Universal Music Group, as well as receiving the “Golden Microphone 2019” award for the best debut of the year. Patrisha has been singing and performing since early childhood – she has participated in more than 60 vocal competitions, winning prizes both in Latvia and abroad, and has been performing with her accompanist since the age of 15.
