There will be no more iPods

The world’s first iPod was unveiled to the world in 2001, when Apple was still driving Steve Jobs. At the time, it was to some extent a revolutionary device that, despite its compact size, allowed the entire music collection to be with it at all times.

However, with the growing popularity of smartphones, interest in media players has declined across the market, which of course has affected iPods as well.

According to Apple, the decision to end production is therefore a natural evolution. “The spirit of the iPod lives on today. We’ve integrated an amazing music experience into all of our products – iPhones, iPads, but also Macs and Apple Watches, “said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of marketing.

There will be no more iPods when stocks run out. Apple is not expected to use this brand on another device.

The Latest iPod Touch

The last iPod will be the Touch, which premiered in 2019. It is still offered by Apple in its official store.

Potential applicants will pay CZK 5,990 (32 GB) for this model, or CZK 8,990 for the 128GB variant or CZK 11,990 for the 256GB version.

The price has not changed at all since its launch. Given that the most expensive variant corresponds to the older generations of iPhones, it is surprising that Apple did not reduce the price.

New iPod Touch

Last year, the iPod Touch was introduced five years later, with many Apple fans already assuming that media players were dead. The main change is against the previous generation of the integration of the faster Apple A10 processor, which replaced the older A8 model.

However, it is worth noting that the American computer giant today offers much faster chips in iPhones, for example. The Apple A10 chip offers higher performance than its predecessor, and mainly it is possible to use other software “tweaks” that Apple offers, for example, for iPhones.

We are talking about group calls on FaceTim, support for augmented reality or the Apple Arcade gaming platform.

However, the appearance is the same as with older apple phones, and that’s a shame. The iPhones have boasted beautiful frameless displays for several years, while the iPod has an old four-inch display with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels and large frames on the sides.

The iPhones just mentioned clearly prove that Apple can also make nicer electronics. The absence of a fingerprint reader in the case of the new iPod Touch did not bother with the details at all. Below the display is an ordinary button just like the old iPhone 6.
