Kremlin: – Follow closely

In connection with the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s visit to Sweden and Finland, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that the Kremlin is closely monitoring everything that could affect NATO configuration near Russia’s borders.

It reports the news agency Reuters.

Discusses security issues

Johnson is visiting Norway’s neighbors to discuss the war in Ukraine and security cooperation in Europe, according to NTB.

The Swedish government has stated in a press release that the British Prime Minister will meet Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson at the manor Harpsund on Wednesday.

Aftonbladet wrote in advance of the visit that the leaders would also sign an agreement on increased defense and security cooperation between Sweden and the United Kingdom, without this being officially confirmed.

– We support all countries’ democratic right to decide issues such as NATO membership. We understand the position of Sweden and Finland, and that is why the Prime Minister will discuss these comprehensive security issues, a spokesman for Johnson said ahead of the visit.

Signed agreement

It is expected that both Sweden and Finland will make a decision on whether to apply to join the NATO military alliance during the month.

Johnson himself stated on Wednesday afternoon that he had agreed on new agreements with Sweden and Finland to strengthen European security, and promised to support both countries’ armed forces if they were to be attacked.

“We are steadfast and unequivocal in our support for both Sweden and Finland, and the signing of these security declarations is a symbol of the eternal assurance between our nations,” he said.

– This is not a temporary solution, but a long-term commitment to military ties and global stability, he added.
