Is this Guardiola’s banter to Liverpool?

Manchester

The tension between Manchester City and Liverpool heats up towards the end of the Premier League. Both teams have the chance to win Pep Guardiola it even looks like it’s getting hot!

Until week 35, Manchester City lead Premier League standings with 86 points. The Citizens are three points ahead of Liverpool in second place with 83 points.

There are still three games remaining to be played by both teams. Everything is still possible!

The rivalry between the two teams is believed to be hot until the end. Especially, Manchester City and Liverpool has dominated the top flight of the Premier League in recent seasons.

Reported from Mirrorthere is an interview snippet Pep Guardiola which became viral when discussing the rivalry of the two teams. The snippet of the sentence is considered to be a mockery of Guardiola to the Reds!

“Liverpool have a great history in European competition. Not in the Premier League, because they won once in 30 years,” he told beIN Sports.

No doubt, Liverpool has been fasting for a long time for the English League title. The Reds only found it in the 2019/2020 season.

However, if you look at the interview in its entirety, Pep Guardiola actually also insinuated that the British are more inclined to choose Liverpool than Manchester City to win. Especially when it comes to history in Premier League, City were actually just on their toes when they were transformed into a big team when they were bought by Sheikh Mansour in 2008.

Here are Guardiola’s full words:

“Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everything,” said Guardiola.

“Of course because Liverpool have an extraordinary history in European competition. Not in the Premier League, because they won once in 30 years, but that’s not a problem at all,” he continued.

“Liverpool is with (Manchester) United as the most important team in terms of titles, legacy, history, drama for many, many things,” he added.

“But we have been there for the last 11 or 12 years. I know sometimes we are uncomfortable, but I don’t care if people prefer Liverpool to win. This is not a problem.”
