Ouch! This is bitter news for Jan Thielmann (19) and 1. FC Köln before the last league game at VfB Stuttgart (May 14, 2022, 3:30 p.m.). The FC youngster suffered a ligament injury against VfL Wolfsburg (0-1) and will be out of the Europa League fight.
And not only that: Thielmann has to take a break for more than two months and even misses the start of preparation for the new season!
Steffen Baumgart: “He’ll be out between eight and ten weeks.”
FC coach Steffen Baumgart (50) says: “It’s just a very unfortunate situation for Jan, especially for him as a young player. In the game it was not obvious to everyone that it would be such a bad injury. If we consider that he will be out for between eight and ten weeks, then he will be back 100 percent for around the first DFB Cup game.”
This means that Thielmann, who was substituted after 62 minutes against Wolfsburg, also has to withdraw from the U21 national team for the European Championship qualifier in June. Baumgart: “You wouldn’t wish that on any player to go on holiday injured. That’s actually the hardest thing you can have. Yesterday I spoke to Antonio Di Salvo, who wanted to take him to the U21s. Jan is now also being built there.”

Sebastian Andersson and Dejan Ljubicic are absent from FC training
At the start of training on Tuesday, Baumgart also had to do without Sebastian Andersson (30), who continues to train individually after his corona illness. The season is also over for the Swede. “Seb hasn’t trained for 14 days now and won’t come out of the ashes like Phoenix. We will build on those who have trained all the time and are healthy,” said the FC coach.
Midfield rocket Dejan Ljubicic (24), however, was missing for private reasons. However, the Austrian is scheduled to return to training on Wednesday and play in Stuttgart. Possibly as a starting eleven replacement for Thielmann.
