Former World No. 1 Venus Williams has apparently confirmed that she definitely plans to return in 2022, but when that will happen remains a mystery. Venus Williams, 41, has not played since losing at a WTA event in Chicago in August.
Venus was awarded a wildcard for the Australian Open but she skipped the tournament. Williams revealed that her fans are curious if she plans to play Wimbledon. However, Venus doesn’t want to reveal too many details as she wants to surprise her fans.
“I’m looking forward to getting back on the pitch and of course I’ll let you know as soon as I know, but I swear it’s soon,” Williams said in a video uploaded to her YouTube channel , as quoted on Sportskeeda.
“I can’t wait. I have so many questions like ‘do you play the French Open?’, ‘do you play Wimbledon?’ I’m going to leave a little secret, I can’t tell you exactly when because I feel like it’s meant to be a surprise.
So I’ll definitely surprise you.”
Venus Williams on her fight for women’s equality
Williams has become a key advocate for gender equality and women’s rights, and lately she’s been working extensively with her activewear brand, Eleven.
“It was also our big push for women’s equality,” said Venus Williams. “At my activewear brand, Eleven, we really put in a lot of work on that throughout the year.
However, March is Women’s History Month, so it’s important for us to really shout from the treetops that women don’t get paid equally. If you’re a minority in the United States, the gap is widening, so we need to raise awareness.
We were also involved with Girls Inc. and were able to help this organization raise money. “It remains to be seen when Williams will return on court.
