The right to abortion is more than ever threatened in the United States following the leak of an official document from the High Court. Is the USA still the largest democracy in the world?
Abortion rights are often an indicator of a country’s degree of democracy. Earlier this month, the United States Supreme Court upheld the authenticity of an internal document heralding the end of the constitutional right to abortion. The right to abortion is in fact more threatened than ever in the USA. If this conclusion is accepted by the High Court, the United States will return to the situation in force before 1973 when each state was free to prohibit or authorize abortions. Given the significant geographical and political divides on the subject, half of the states, especially in the conservative South and center, should quickly banish the procedure on their soil. In 2022, no fewer than 31 out of 50 states have introduced anti-abortion bills. A stay-at-home mother is not degrading, on the contrary, working outside is less tiring and more rewarding in the eyes of others. But it’s a matter of choice. Being able to choose is THE freedom. “A whole series” of other rights could also be threatened, warned Joe Biden. The president called directly on Americans to defend abortion at the polls in the next election.
