AMLO’s tour of Central America and the Caribbean ends with his arrival in Cuba from Belize.
This Saturday, May 8, President AMLO arrived at the airport in Havana. He arrived accompanied by his wife on a plane from the Mexican Air Force. His first activity will be to visit the Monument Jose Marti to leave an offering of flowers. The official welcome ceremony was held at the Palace of the Revolution, at 11:45 a.m. Mexico City time.
José Martí founded the Cuban Revolutionary Party and organized the Cuban War of Independence.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and AMLO will have a private meeting where binding agreements between the two countries are expected to be signed. Before returning to CDMX, the ceremony for the imposition of the José Martí Order on President López Obrador will be held.
In Belice AMLO signed treaties with Prime Minister John Briceño, for the cooperation of both countries in the program Sowing Life. In this program, the inhabitants of rural areas receive an income in exchange for planting and caring for trees on their plots. With this treaty they try to stop climate change and migration to Mexico.
