Gelsenkirchen (SID) – A curiosity at Bundesliga promoted Schalke 04: The contract of head coach Dimitrios Grammozis, who was released at the beginning of March, has been extended by one season due to his return to the top flight. “Yes, Grammozis’ contract has been extended, but he is also part of the promotion team and he deserves a lot of thanks,” confirmed Schalke’s sports director Rouven Schröder on Sky90.
Grammozis’ new contract runs until 2023. Schalke veteran Mike Büskens took over responsibility for the coach and led the Royal Blues back into league one with seven wins in eight games. On Saturday there was the decisive 3:2 (0:2) against FC St. Pauli.
After the 3:4 against Hansa Rostock on March 5th, S04 decided to separate from Grammozis. The contract would have actually expired at the end of the season, but was now extended by another season due to promotion.
