Asker: – Cyclist died after traffic accident

Life-saving first aid was performed on the spot, but the life of the cyclist could not be saved.

– The cyclist died as a result of the injuries from the traffic accident, the police write on Twitter just after 12.30 on Sunday afternoon.

– Probable breach of duty

The police believe that the accident was probably caused by the driver breaking the duty to give way.

Assignment manager Karl Otto Bratt tells Dagbladet that the case is under investigation on the spot, and that the road will probably be closed for a longer period.

– A suspected breach of duty that results in a death will be investigated, and we have several units on site that will work with this for a while. The investigation will indicate what kind of status the driver will get, he says.

First on the spot

Bratt says that a police patrol on its way to another mission came across the accident just minutes after it happened.

– They conducted lifesaving first aid on site until the ambulance and air ambulance arrived.

The cyclist was eventually pronounced dead at the scene, he says.

The accident happened on Østre Strandvei, just after Ramsvikveien, on Tofte, and signs are being worked on.
