Corona isolation in Lower Saxony is reduced to five days

Anyone who has been infected with the corona virus only has to be isolated for five days in Lower Saxony from Saturday. The prerequisite is that those affected are symptom-free in the 48 hours before the end of the period. This was announced by the Ministry of Health in Hanover. As expected, the state government is implementing a recommendation from the Federal Ministry of Health and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

Lower Saxony’s responsible minister, Daniela Behrens (SPD), however, emphasized that she recommends that all those affected only end their isolation after a negative rapid test in order to protect others from infection. A negative test remains mandatory for employees in the healthcare sector and in old people’s and nursing homes before they can return to work.

The quarantine obligation for contact persons is lifted. Instead, there is an urgent call to test yourself for five days and to reduce your own contacts as much as possible. With this step, Lower Saxony follows the recommendation of the RKI and the federal government.

“In view of our good vaccination rate, the comparatively mild course of the disease due to the omicron variants and the associated relief for the health system, we can well represent these adjustments in dealing with Covid in the current situation,” said Minister of Health Behrens.
