The first edition of the “Open des Gones”, a national swimming competition, is held in Villeurbanne from 6 to 8 May.
The three largest swimming clubs in the region have joined forces to jointly organize the first national swimming competition in Villeurbanne: the “Open des Gones”. With approximately 3,000 members, Lyon Natation Métropole took part in the adventure, accompanied by the Racing club of Bron-Décines and the swimming club of Villeurbanne.
356 athletes competing
The opening of the competition was held at the Etienne Gagnaire nautical center in Villeurbanne last Friday. The swimmers will compete until Sunday, May 8. The event brings together 356 athletes from nearly fifty different clubs, mostly from the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region.
Headliners on the agenda
Headliners from the region will be there, such as the two French champions in the 50m butterfly category: Thomas Piron, sprinter from Lyon and Serguei Comte, from the Bron club.
On the program this Saturday, May 7: the 50 m butterfly, the 100 m breaststroke, or the 200 m backstroke. At stake: several prizes to be won, up to €1,500 for the best swimmer.
