EWRC is preparing a new blow to our pockets. A drastic rise in water prices is expected. This is provided by the business plans of the water companies in the country. Among the reasons are the increased costs for electricity and materials. Their proposals will be considered by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) this month, and the new prices are likely to take effect in July, BNT reported.
The price of water in Haskovo is among the highest in the country. The residents of the district now pay 3 leva and 52 stotinki per cubic meter. As the business plan of the company has not been approved, there will be no increase for the time being, but people are dissatisfied with the quality.
“Extremely poor quality, you can’t cook or do anything with this water. We pour spring water to cook,” said Yordanka Stoyanova, a Haskovo resident.
This month, the residents of Dimitrovgrad will pay BGN 3.52 per cubic meter instead of the current BGN 1.86, after the municipality finally became part of the water association in April and the price equaled that in Haskovo.
According to the company’s business plan in Ruse, water is expected to rise by 30 percent and instead of the current two levs and 94 stotinki, people will have to pay 90 stotinki more per cubic meter of water.
The price of water in Kyustendil and Blagoevgrad so far remains BGN 1.27 per cubic meter, although compared to last year the costs of both companies are many times higher, according to reports sent to the EWRC. Although they pay one of the lowest prices in the country, for some people it is still expensive.
“Now I take BGN 290, let’s add BGN 390 and I have given BGN 200 for gas and I have no money for bread. Can we live – and water has become more expensive, everything,” commented Violeta, a resident of Blagoevgrad.
According to the managers of the water companies, the increase in the price of water is inevitable due to the increased costs for its delivery.
