A ban on displaying Ukrainian and Russian flags in public will be in effect in Berlin on May 8 and 9. The country commemorates the 77th anniversary of the end of World War II. The city fears riots between Russian and Ukrainian protesters.
The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany is furious. He calls it “a catastrophic political decision” and “a slap in the face to the Ukrainian people”. He calls on the mayor of Berlin to reverse the decision. He hasn’t responded yet.
Incidentally, there is also a ban on wearing military clothes, marching or singing military songs and the use of the Z sign, which has become the Russian symbol of the invasion of Ukraine.
