The Period of Time Dinosaurs Lived, Associated with the Forming of the Continent

KOMPAS.comDinosaur are animals that lived on Earth in prehistoric times. Dinosaurs existed in period Mesozoicwhere at this time there are no living humans.

The Mesozoic Period occurred from 245 million to 66 million years ago. Scholars divide this Mesozoic period into three periods: Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. Besides being a time where dinosaur life, this period is also the time when the continents split into smaller continents.

Triassic Period (252 million to 201 million years ago)

During this period, the land on Earth was still a large continent called Pangaea. The climate on this land is hot and dry and does not have poles like it does now. This causes the differences in flora and fauna that live on this large land tend to be similar.

It was during this period that the dinosaurs first lived. Examples of dinosaurs on land at this time were archosaurs and therapsids. While examples of dinosaurs in the ocean are plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs.

The hot weather makes the character of dinosaur skin at this time not too porous like animals living today, for example mammals. The goal is that their bodies do not lose a lot of fluids in the hot weather.

Towards the end of the Triassic period, there were many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. This caused Pangea to split into two, Gondwana (which would later become Africa, South America, Australia, and Antarctica) and Laurasia (which would later become Europe, Asia, and North America).

The Jurassic Period (201 million to 145 million years ago)

The splitting of Pangea in two sparked a massive evolution. This makes many new dinosaurs appear and grow massively.

Geographically, the temperature in this period decreased drastically. Lots of vegetation and lush rainforest. This condition also made many plant-eating dinosaurs that lived in this period.

Most dinosaurs lived in this period. Some of the dinosaurs that lived in this period include Brachiosaurus, diplodocus, allosaurus, and megalosaurus. In this period also began to appear bird dinosaurs such as archaeopteryx, pterodactyl, and epidendrosaurus.

Cretaceous period (145 million to 66 million years ago)

In this period, the land was increasingly divided, giving rise to the diversity of dinosaur species. This is the longest period of the life of the dinosaurs. Animals that lived at this time were dominated by land reptiles, marine animals, and birds.

During this time, the Earth’s temperature has increased again to almost similar to the Triassic period. Uniquely, the Earth’s temperature during this period rose and fell, causing sea levels to rise and fall.

That’s a summary of the period when dinosaurs lived. Are you getting curious about dinosaurs?
