Christ would stand on the side of Ukraine, the bishop is convinced
I am glad to welcome Mr. General Boyko Borissov. Both as a politician and a statesman, you proved your faith in God and love for the fatherland.
With these words the Metropolitan of Plovdiv Nikolay addressed the leader of GERB during his sermon in the church “St. George” in Plovdiv. Besides Borissov, the mayor Zdravko Dimitrov, the deputies Rositsa Kirova, Dani Kanazireva, Radomir Cholakov, Mladen Shishkov, Ivan Totev, Temenuzhka Petkova, Stefan Shilev were also present.
The bishop did not spare superlatives to Borisov. “You have done as much for the Holy Church as no one else has succeeded. You did it because you love Bulgaria. This is how a true Bulgarian statesman like you works. We will never forget the good you did. We pray for you and bless you. to protect you, “said the metropolitan.
He continued his sermon, condemning Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
“Unfortunately, the evil in this life has multiplied, and with it the disasters in the world. You see the elements in our homes and souls. These are diseases, fear, death. The worst disaster is war. And even more frightening is that “Russia has invaded Ukraine. This is unimaginable – a war between two Orthodox nations. It is contrary to God,” the bishop said.
And he asked whose side Christ would stand on. “On the side of the attacked, I assure you. We know God’s commandment, ‘Thou shalt not kill,'” Grandfather Nicholas reminded him.
In saying these words, Boyko Borissov crossed himself, and with him the deputies accompanying him.
“Every man carries a soul and no one has the right to take his life,” the bishop said. He ended his sermon with a blessing for peace in Ukraine and prosperity for all of us.
Borissov’s program envisions visiting the Holy Archangels Chapel under construction in Old Plovdiv, where the new diocese will be located. The temple is made with a donation from Georgi Gergov.
