West Palm Beach Man Arrested in NYC for Attempting to Set Baby on Fire – NBC 7 Miami

The suspect arrested in this disturbing case, a drag truck driver, according to Seneca County authorities in New York lived in this house located in West Palm Beach. As they said, he is accused of allegedly having tried to set fire to a 1-year-old baby. Authorities also found another 4-year-old boy injured in the suspect’s hauler.

Seneca County authorities in NY state went to a truck stop in Waterloo NY as a result of several fires. Upon arrival, they located and detained two suspects who were with a one-year-old baby covered in flammable liquid.

Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Luce says:

“It is presumed that the two suspects poured the flammable liquid on the one-year-old baby in order to set it on fire inside the building.”

Of the two suspects, police say 28-year-old Florida resident Jamie Avery Jr. was arrested.

During the investigation they also found what appeared to be an explosive device in the bathroom of the stop. The bomb squad was present and confirmed that it was a fake explosive.

“During that time a second four-year-old boy was found injured in the cab of a Rastra truck that was believed to be Avery’s.”

Both boys, who police believe are related, were taken to hospital where she is expected to make a full recovery. The two minors are under the care of the Dept. of Families, while the investigation continues.

At the press conference, the authorities indicated that Avery’s residence address is in the 4500 block of Old Military Trail in WPB, but according to neighbors in the area, Avery no longer lives there.

The charges facing the suspect are those of attempted murder, arson and endangering the integrity of a child. As for the other man, he is expected to face charges in the immediate future.
