On Monday, May 2nd, 2022, a 63-year-old man from Büren, believing that his daughter had asked him for money via WhatsApp on his new phone number, transferred almost 2,000 euros to an account owned by scammers.
The victim received a WhatsApp message on his cell phone. Allegedly, his daughter has a new number and her online banking is blocked. In the message, she asked for certain amounts of money to be transferred immediately. The injured party paid 1,859.99 euros to M. Fatehmahomed’s bank account with IBAN DE14110101015675295350.
Only after the transfer did the father contact his daughter, who informed him about the fraud.
The police urgently warns of this scam, which unfortunately some citizens are currently falling for (cf. press report of May 4th, 2022, www.presseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/55625/5212812).
The perpetrators are extremely skilful in this and other phone scams. Police tips: paderborn.polizei.nrw/artikel/achtung-betrueger-am-telefon
