Tāvi Veskimegi, Chairman of the Board of Elering, said that the agreement specifies the most important part of the LNG supply chain – the floating LNG terminal.
“Our joint process is moving according to plan, which includes the provision of a ship in the region by the end of the year,” he commented.
Veskimegi said that an agreement has now been reached on the floating terminal and negotiations with Alexela and Infortar on the berth in the port of Paldiski will continue.
The cooperation agreement between Elering and Gasgrid stipulates that the parties will develop the necessary infrastructure for the construction of the LNG floating terminal and will bear the related costs in the respective country. At the same time, the costs of renting the floating terminal will be borne jointly by the companies, taking into account the gas consumption ratio between Estonia and Finland, which means that Elering will hold 20% and Gasgrid Finland 80%.
The current plan is that the floating LNG terminal in Estonia will be established by the end of the year and will remain there until a permanent berth is established in Finland.
After the construction of the LNG terminal, Estonia will have two gas supply routes: the Balticconnector pipeline and the floating LNG terminal in the north and the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility, the Klaipėda LNG terminal and the Polish-Lithuanian gas interconnection in the south.
