At the moment, there are eight players who are not available for Malmö FF due to injuries. However, the situation is not something that worries team doctor Pär Herbertsson.
– I do not think we have that many injuries, but we have important players who are injured, he says to Sydsvenskan.
Herbertsson also believes that players have become better at recognizing and interrupting if necessary, as in many cases there is no point in trying to continue playing. Age also plays a role in this, where the older players are forced to be even more careful.
– It is easier to get injured, then when the rehabilitation begins you want to be absolutely sure that the players are completely healthy before they go back. You do not take a chance in any way, he says.
Before the season, Malmö FF changed coach, to Milos Milojevic who is known for his tough training. But Herbertsson sees no connection between the change of coach and the injury situation.
– Milos is the most responsive coach I have had in a very long time. He does nothing that would be controversial in any way, but respects the medical team very highly unlike Uwe Rösler who I came into conflict with every day.
The players missing for MFF are long-term injured Jonas Knudsen, Niklas Moisander, Adi Nalic and David Edvardsson. In addition to them, Anders Christiansen, Isaac Kiese Thelin, Jo Inge Berget and Veljko Birmancevic are away from games with minor injuries. Birmancevic and Kiese Thelin are expected to be back in this weekend’s match against Mjällby. Berget is expected to be gone for two to three weeks, while the hope for team captain Christiansen is to be back to the cup final against Hammarby on 26 May.
