MADRID, 4 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United States ambassador, Tom Nides, has indicated that he gives the Israeli government “a lot of credit” for its handling of tensions during the last month, given the increase in tensions registered in the Esplanade of the Mosques, in the Old City of Jerusalem.
“I think things went quite well,” he said in the framework of an event organized by the US think tank Atlantic Council, where he also met former US ambassador Dan Shapiro, according to the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’ .
“Just met my friend and predecessor Daniel Shapiro for a great Atlantic Council talk and to observe the start of Yom HaZikaron (national day commemorating fallen soldiers in Israel). May the memory of the lost soldiers and victims of the terrorism is a blessing,” Nides said on his official Twitter profile.
Asked about Lavrov’s recent statements about Adolf Hitler – he stated that “he had Jewish blood” – Nides indicated at the event that “he sounds like a guy who is losing the war.” “It was so outrageously stupid. What Russia has done has set Russia back IMHO, not only with Israel, but (with) the world for 30 years,” he said.
